Professional Standards
The Trust's commitment to the development of professional archaeological practice in the United Kingdom is reflected by its support for the Institute of Field Archaeologists.
As part of an organisation Registered with the Institute of Field Archaeologists all our staff irrespective of personal adherence have to abide by the Institute's Codes of Conduct and related documents.
GGAT staff served on the Institute of Field Archaeologists Standards in British Archaeology Working Party. The SIBA working party produced Standards and Guidance documents for various types of archaeological work (desk-based assessments, field evaluations, excavations, watching briefs, standing building recording), which have been adopted as Best Practice by the Institute in General Meeting. GGAT Projects staff were instrumental in the development of these Standards.
Various Trust staff have served as officers of the Institute, and this experience has benefited the development of the Trust.
The Institute has continued to produce further standards and guidence documents.
