Work Experience at GGAT
If you are considering a career in archaeology, we may be able to offer you a work experience placement.
School Students
GGAT annually offer six work experience placements to school students. The work we offer is computer-based at our Swansea headquarters and is most likely to be mainly in the Historic Environment Record department, although this will depend on what projects we are working on during your placement. When working in the HER you will be using historical and modern materials to increase our knowledge of people and events of Southeast Wales.
If you would like to find out more about arranging work experience with us, you can apply via Careers Wales, through your school, or you can approach us directly. We will need to interview you (accompanied by a parent or guardian if you are under 16) before we offer you a place, so that your time with us is more productive and rewarding.

University/college students and recent graduates
We can also offer places to university and college students studying archaeology or related subjects. If you are studying locally, you could arrange to come on a regular basis. We would expect a commitment from you to come in at pre-arranged times. You could also do a block placement in your holidays, which would also be suitable for students whose homes are in South Wales but who are studying elsewhere. Most of the work we can offer is office-based.
If you are interested in a particular aspect of the Trust's work, we may be able to tailor your placement to give you experience in that area. Contact us for further details.
Overseas Students
One or two places a year are available through the American Studies Exchange Office Swansea Internship Programme organised by Swansea University (apply via the university). We can also offer placements (internships) to students or recent graduates in archaeology from the EU funded by the Leonardo da Vinci programme. Good written and spoken English is essential.
