Landmap
The LANDMAP historic landscape characterisation is carried out using the same principles as used for the registered landscapes, but not in such detail. The earliest characterisations were carried out at a very general level, with the landscape divided into very broad categories. Where the study of Registered Historic Landscapes looks in detail at the themes involved in the development of the landscape as well as what survives, LANDMAP is more geographically based with a greater emphasis on how it is today, and is designed to be a GIS tool.
