Historic Landscape Characterisation
Landscape characterisation involves identifying the dominant historic themes or patterns in any locality. These show how space was organised either during one particular period, or how its organisation developed through time. Researchers look for a combination or pattern of features which represent a significant and distinguishable landscape when viewed together, even though individually they may not seem particularly striking.
