Sweyne's Howes, Rhossili Down, Gower

An Archaeologist excavating the town ditch at Wind Street, Swansea

There are two chambered tombs on the east side of Rhossili Down, very close together. The better preserved of the two Sweyne's Howes has a chamber whose sides are formed by three large slabs of stone standing at right-angles to each other. The capstone, which has fallen off, can be seen lying on the ground between them. What little remains of the mound can be seen around the chamber. The scale pole is 1m long, with the red section being 50cm.

The other Sweyne's Howes tomb is much less well preserved, with just a scattering of large blocks and smaller stones scattered over an oval area.
